چکیده

We construct a model for black hole formation in galactic bulges. The initial state is a slowly rotating isothermal sphere, with an effective transport speed and rotation rate Q. The black hole mass is determined when the aeff centrifugal radius of the collapse flow exceeds the capture radius of the central black hole. This model reproduces the observed correlation between black hole masses and galactic velocity dispersions, # 8 M ≈ 10 M bh , , where . This model also predicts the ratio of black hole mass to host mass: 1 4 (j/200 km s ) j p 2a m eff B . 1 m ≈ 0.004(j/200 km s ) B Subject headings: black hole physics — galaxies: kinematics and dynamics — galaxies: nuclei

An Observed Fundamental Plane Relation for Supermassive Black Holes

We study observed correlations between supermassive black hole (BHs) and the properties of their host galaxies, and show that the observations define a BH “fundamental plane” (BHFP), of the form MBH ∝ σ3.0±0.3 R0.43±0.19 e or MBH ∝ M 0.54±0.17 ∗ σ 2.2±0.5, analogous to the FP of elliptical galaxies. The BHFP is preferred over a simple relation between MBH and any of σ, M∗, Mdyn, or Re alone at ...

A Fundamental Relation Between Supermassive Black Holes and Their Host Galaxies

The masses of supermassive black holes correlate almost perfectly with the velocity dispersions of their host bulges, MBH ∝ σ α, where α ∼ 5. The relation is much tighter than the relation between MBH and bulge luminosity, with a scatter no larger than expected on the basis of measurement errors alone.

Probing the Coevolution of Supermassive Black Holes and Quasar Host Galaxies

At low redshift, there are fundamental correlations between the mass of supermassive black holes (MBH) and the mass (Mbulge) and luminosity of the host galaxy bulge. We investigate the same relation at z & 1. Using virial mass estimates for 15 quasars at z & 2 to measure their black hole mass, we find that black holes at high-z fall nearly on the same MBH versus R-band magnitude (MR) relation (...

The growth of supermassive black holes in pseudo-bulges, classical bulges and elliptical galaxies

Using results from structural analysis of a sample of nearly 1000 local galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, we estimate how the mass in central black holes is distributed amongst elliptical galaxies, classical bulges and pseudo-bulges, and investigate the relation between their stellar masses and central stellar velocity dispersion σ. Assuming a single relation between elliptical galaxy...

The correlation between black hole mass and bulge velocity dispersion in hierarchical galaxy formation models

Recent work has demonstrated that there is a tight correlation between the mass of a black hole and the velocity dispersion of the bulge of its host galaxy. We show that the model of Kauffmann & Haehnelt, in which bulges and supermassive black holes both form during major mergers, produces a correlation between Mbh and σ with slope and scatter comparable to the observed relation. In the model, ...
